Hello Reader,
This week serves as a reminder to check your Amtrak Guest Rewards account. If you haven't ridden in a while, your points may be closer to expiring than you realize.
I have a new post discussing the costs of an Amtrak trip and how to find prices on your own. Additionally, I'll provide a quick update on what I've been up to.
Have You Checked Your Amtrak Points Lately?
If you haven't taken an Amtrak trip in the past couple of years, this is a quick reminder to check your points balance.
Amtrak Guest Rewards points expire after 24 months of inactivity — and it’s easier than you think to let them slip your mind.
The good news? You don’t need to use all your points or book an entire trip to keep them active.
Over the years, I’ve helped family members keep their points from expiring with simple steps like booking a trip months in advance instead of waiting or completing a quick survey. It only takes a few minutes, but it can save your entire balance.
Here are a few simple ways to reset your expiration clock:
- Book a future Amtrak trip (you can book about 11 months out)
- Redeem a small reward like a coupon or lounge pass
- Take a quick survey to earn points
- Use an Amtrak credit card (points won’t expire while it’s active)
If you’re not sure when your points expire, it’s worth logging in to your account and checking today.
And here’s one people forget: You can even use your points to book a trip for a friend — it still counts as activity and keeps your account active.
If you want the full breakdown (and a few more tips), I put together a quick guide here: How to Prevent Your Amtrak Points from Expiring.
It’s one of those small things that’s easy to overlook… until it’s too late.
How much is this Amtrak Adventure?
It's the question I get most, and the honest answer is: it depends — but you can find out for yourself in about two minutes. My new post shows you how. Pass it along to anyone who's been asking you.
What is Kev Up To?
I didn't go far from home this week. I hung out with friends over the weekend. But during the week, I started walking more —some days: mornings on my own, lunchtimes with a buddy, the occasional evening one with a different friend.
The next trip is still coming together. A few details to clear up with the folks I'm traveling with, plus I'm down to two hotels and need to settle on one.
My latest Patreon post is free for everyone to read. I recently received an email that I get once a year — and a few years ago, that same email nearly ended Travels with Kev. I’m glad I continued.
Postcards are going out this week for Patreon members. Do you want to get one?
