I love being on a train, but staying in a sleeper accommodation enhances my experience. In the coming weeks, we’ll explore various Amtrak accommodations to help you know what to expect.
Having information can help you book better and give realistic expectations to make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.
Did you know that all sleeper rooms include scheduled meals, access to a shower, and lounge access at select stations?
Let’s start this series by spotlighting Superliner Roomettes, which offer the coziest private space on long-distance trains.
My first experience in an Amtrak accommodation was Room 14 on the 421 Texas Eagle!
What is a Superliner Roomette?
Roomettes are Amtrak’s smallest private rooms, making them ideal for solo travelers or a cozy fit for two.
Each Roomette features:
Two reclining seats transform into a lower bed. Most people use this bed alone.
An upper bunk folds down for overnight trips (one traveler must use built-in steps to climb up). The upper bunk does not have windows, and most people cannot sit up when up there.
A fold-out table with cup holders
A small closet or hook for hanging a jacket
On Superliner trains, roomettes are on both the upper and lower levels—rooms 2-10 are upstairs, while rooms 11-14 are downstairs (room 1 belongs to the car attendant).
Packing Tips
Space is limited, so it’s important to pack efficiently. Many solo travelers find that their suitcase fits securely on the lower step—though use this tip at your discretion!
You can place your larger bags in the luggage area on the lower level before the stairs.

What Kev Has Been Up To!
Last week, I took the Floridian train to Tampa and a connecting bus to St. Petersburg.
Once again, I had the pleasure of working with the incredible team at Radiant Life Health Solution! I built their website last year, so I returned to tidy it up and prepare for the upcoming quarter. Ben, the owner, is a great friend and is an amazing Autonomous Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetics, wellness, and primary care.
Although Ben and I accomplished a lot of work, we also enjoyed some walks, sitting on his dock, and had several excellent meals.

My computer is dying!
My computer has slowly been dying over the past few months, and this week, it has worsened. The battery has been going, but it worked fine if I kept it plugged in.
But yesterday, one of the hinges broke, so now it makes a crunching noise when I open it, and the screen bezel pulled away. UGH.
I ordered a new one on Tuesday, and it should come today. I am glad this one is still working and leaving it plugged in. I want to get this one fixed so it can stay home and have a new one to travel with.
